Here is what I have found as a user of Professional Speech Solutions, supplied by Voice Perfect Systems.
I am a committed fan and user of a Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Solution. It has enabled me to have at least a four fold increase in productivity in preparing long and complex reports. It travels everywhere with me on my laptop and is an indispensable tool, both in the office and while travelling on assignments (particularly the latter when time is of the essence).
I am one of the generation of two finger typists and this has always been a limiting factor on my productivity as I have to prepare many reports. I had one of the earlier versions of Dragon Dictate on, at that time, a state of the art laptop but I could never get the productivity increase that I hoped for, Hence I was quite sceptical when the virtues of the current version of NaturallySpeaking were advised.
This time I had a new laptop with a Pentium 3 processor and lots of RAM (my old laptop had lots of RAM but did not have the processor speed) so I said to Greg and his team "show me on my machine and convince me". They did. I have used it extensively ever since and am very happy.
I find it very good for when I know what I want to say and need to get lots of words onto paper quickly. It is also very good when I don't know what I want to say and am feeling my way forward, as it frees me from two finger typing and I get more done with less stress. A feature I find very useful is the ability to hear your own spoken words when the system does make errors.
My tips: go for the fastest processor speed and the largest amount of RAM that you can afford; think before speaking: speak clearly.

As you are aware, some 12 months ago my then Secretary commenced maternity leave resulting in me having to recruit a replacement officer. Whilst replacement officers were relatively easy to secure, those with high-quality secretarial skills were few and far between. Having now worked with the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 for in excess of six months, I can do nothing more than sing the praises of the technology your Company has developed. The technology itself is inspirational, as is its accuracy. The acquisition of this program has made a huge difference to my ability to produce quality outputs in a timely fashion. More importantly than the technology itself, however, is the after sales support afforded by you. I run a busy specialist medical practice. I dictate anywhere between 30 and 70 pages of letters a week; and I do a substantial amount of medicolegal work which requires the drafting of reports that on average run to about five or six pages of dictated A4 text.
I investigated the possibility of a voice dictating system about five months ago, mainly to see whether I could cut down the steps involved in the preparation of letters and reports and save some time. A test run on the Dragon NaturallySpeaking system showed that the system was able to replicate my dictation accurately with very little training.
I subsequently purchased the system, together with the basic medical vocabulary. I followed the instructions for training and within two weeks was producing letters and reports without the assistance of a typist. I have not employed a typist since. I recovered the cost of the system within about six weeks.
I have required only occasional backup from Voice Perfect which has been very good.

I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking now in my nephrological practice for over 18 months and have found it to not only have improved the efficiency and productivity of my practice but also saved me a lot of money.
I initially brought the product when of my secretary became overwhelmed with typing and was unable to keep up with the typing and other components of running a medical practice. Rather than hire a typist I had decided to try Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It has surpassed my expectations enormously.
The ease and accuracy of use has meant that I am able to dictate 80 to 90% of the letters that I send out and has freed up my secretary and enabled her to attend to the other practice matters with out any stress or pressure. Not only has there been a cost saving in not having to pay for a typist but also an improved cash flow as she can attend to the accounts in a more timely and regular manner. In fact rather than being overworked and behind she now has time to spare and is asking me to send her more typing!
Dragon NaturallySpeaking was easy to train and use. I would estimate that I now dictate with a 96-98% accuracy. This was enhanced by the purchase of the medical dictionary and by making a list of medications and importing them into the dictionary. I now rarely have to add any words to the dictionary.
The quality of my letters has also improved as I can see immediately what I have written and can modify as I go if I don’t like the sound of the letter. The time from dictation to sending the letter is amazingly short. Often a follow up letter is dictated, typed, corrected and printed before the patient has finished paying the account. With emailed letters, the referring doctor has the letter before the patient has left the building.
Proof reading of letters and corrections are carried out simultaneously using a mouse to open the correction box and select alternative phrases or words. If the program has made an error then usually the correct alternative is in the correction box selection list. Thus the program is continually and easily being trained in accuracy.
I can not speak highly enough of the program which has changed to way that I work. I would be happy to recommend it to any of my colleagues.

I purchased Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 Preferred some months ago.
I initially purchased it in desperation because I had too much work on. It helped me through that period. I am at the point now where I feel that I could not live without it. Given its benefits, the purchase was well worth it.
The software does have some quirks, but overall I am so impressed with it that I really had to tell someone that would appreciate hearing it. I usually find myself using a combination of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the mouse, and keyboard input if I'm in a hurry, but I can work totally hands free if I have a bit of leeway, or I just want to recline and sip my coffee.
The macro and command functionality really helps too.
Thanks for helping me to work more efficiently! I only wish I could get this software for Linux.

Bangkok: Premier Peter Beattie today congratulated Voice Perfect on the launch of a test program for its speech recognition software at Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand.
"Voice Perfect, a Smart State company, originally developed its PathSpeak voice recognition technology for the health industry in conjunction with Queensland Health Pathology and Scientific Services," said Mr Beattie.
With its use in hospitals in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia, PathSpeak has become a valuable diagnostic tool that enables pathologists to create diagnoses and reports simply by speaking.
These reports are automatically entered directly into the active laboratory information management system, allowing patients to be treated immediately instead of having to wait for written reports.
"Voice Perfect is exactly the kind of company we have been trying to encourage with our Smart State strategy," said Mr Beattie.
"It has developed new technology and has pushed hard to find new export markets, bringing in export dollars and creating more jobs.
"Its success has resulted in the company continuing to grow, with a lease signed last week to double its office space in Queensland.
"If Voice Perfect is successful, this will be the first use of speech recognition software in a Thailand hospital."
Voice Perfect believes that with the potential for about 400 doctors to use the technology at Bumrungrad Hospital, word will spread throughout the country's hospital system and a large number of orders will result.
Greg Findlay, export manager for Voice Perfect, is thrilled by the company's achievements.
"During the past 12 months we have opened up two new offices, significantly increased exports to the United Kingdom and for the first time, we are beginning to export to South East Asia," Mr Findlay said.
"None of this would have been possible without the Queensland Government's Smart State strategy or its export advice.
"The Queensland Government has shown us tremendous support through access to technology and information, export advice and market research, and most importantly, trade missions, one of which has resulted in our biggest project to date in New Zealand."
During the next 12 months, Voice Perfect plans to continue to increase export earnings and penetrate new markets with the help of the Queensland Government.
PathSpeak is customised for several accents of English, including American, Australian, Indian and Asian.
Mr Beattie is leading a 10-day Queensland Government Trade and Investment Mission of China, Hong Kong and Thailand.

I have been using your Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional version 8 software for a number of months in my general medical practice. I am extremely satisfied with this product, and very impressed with the ease-of-use and accuracy.
I use the product all day, every day to dictate clinical notes, referral letters to specialists and hospital clinics and internal and external e-mail. Because of the speed and ease-of-use my medical records are more detailed and accurate.
Referral letters are a breeze, and these have often been completed and faxed before the patient has left the building. I am not using the services of a typist at all.
This product has undoubtedly increased my productivity, and I am able to get more work done in less time. As a result I often get home earlier in the day than I used to.
The beauty of the product is that it is fun to use, and almost effortless.

I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Edition now for over 18 months, and have saved myself almost $30,000 in typist's wages-----I no longer employ a typist---it is me. I used to spend about 3 hours per week downloading my letters from my typist, sitting in front of the computer doing corrections and then e-mailing them back for printing.
I now dictate my letters directly onto my laptop and spend about the same number of hours per week doing the corrections, but I don't have to pay another wage, and I am not spending more time than I would otherwise have done over my mail. I have used Dragon NaturallySpeaking since September 1999. I have been delighted with this product. I dictate approximately 120 pages of text per week. Prior to obtaining this software I was spending up to $1000 per month outsourcing typing in addition to the work done by my staff. Since obtaining NaturallySpeaking I have not needed to outsource any typing at all, a monthly saving of more than $1000.
I work as a medical practitioner and a further advantage is that I can now do all my clinical notes and know that they are totally confidential. I can quickly make changes to reports whilst the material is still fresh in my mind. I can review completed reports and do any editing that is required on the computer.
I use a Sony digital recorder when I am away from my practice and find the quality of text is also excellent from this machine.
A further advantage is that my staff no longer complain of arm and hand pain as there is not the requirement to do the amount of typing that was done before.
Each update has been an improvement on its precursor. I have had problems at times and have received a good deal of help from the support team at Voice Perfect.
I have been a strong advocate of your product amongst my professional group and with others because I believe it brings about extraordinary efficiencies.

Having used Dragon speech recognition products for 14 years I must say I am astounded that people are still using typing to such an extent given the health risks associated with repetitive strain issues. I would have thought by now responsible employers would be adopting voice recognition wherever possible in the interest of safer working environments.
They clearly have the incentive to do so from a productivity perspective given the huge increase in document production speed which can be achieved.
Having introduced Dragon NaturallySpeaking to several organisations I have managed in Australia and New Zealand, I feel that I have made some small contribution towards getting the business community to understand the advantages of switching to voice.
For me personally, one of the most satisfying aspects to using Dragon NaturallySpeaking is to be able to capture thoughts and concepts quickly. To watch slabs of accurate text appearing onscreen is psychologically very satisfying, especially for someone like me who has not learnt to type. As a barrister, I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional Edition in all my work in chambers.
I have used it and its predecessors (including Dragon Dictate) continuously since 1994. I have never engaged a secretary or typist since then.
I use it to dictate memoranda of advice, court forms and precedents, letters, and most emails. As a part-time judicial member of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal of NSW (1999-2005), I used it to dictate all of my determinations in the areas of freedom of information and privacy disputes.
For the past two years, I have used Acoustic Magic’s Voice Tracker array microphone, supplied by Voice Perfect. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Finally freed of the headphones, I am able to work comfortably and have my hands free to hold documents, law books and to turn pages. I can also turn my head and the quality of the speech recognition is not altered. I recommend the combination of the voice array microphone and Dragon NaturallySpeaking to any practitioner.
