Founded in 1891 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Royal Philips Electronics currently has offices in over 60 countries worldwide. Philips is currently divided into three main divisions: Philips Healthcare, producing imaging systems, monitoring solutions and healthcare informatics; Philips Lighting, producing lighting solutions for home and professional sectors (Philips’ first product were domestic light bulbs); and Philips Consumer Lifestyle, producing audio, video, domestic appliances and shaving & beauty products. Major products created by Philips include the Philishave personal shaver in 1939; the compact audio cassette in 1963; and the Compact Disc in partnership with Sony in 1982.
